Bringing traditional Kvass to a new audience
Kvass is a traditional Slavic drink—naturally fermented, bread-based, and alcohol-free. Unlike other fermented drinks such as kombucha, kvass is yet to crack the market outside of Eastern Europe, so we knew we had to make a strong impression before the taste did all the rest.
We named the drink Kolo, which means ‘circle’ in Ukrainian and also has the familiarity of other globally recognised beverages, evoking a sense of reliability. The brand’s yellow comes from traditional ‘KBAC’ barrels that were used to properly transport kvass, as well as by street vendors who would sell the drink directly from the barrel. The colour is happy and light, reflecting the qualities of the drink and the memories evoked for those who grew up drinking it. This carries through to all collateral and messaging, suggesting an easy and natural alternative drink choice. We also designed and built the e-commerce site and began a social media campaign ahead of the product’s launch to attract attention and a following.
